The Weekender

Just another breezy day at the beach! I wore this outfit last weekend in Santa Barbara as J and I went to the pier for some mid-day cocktails. Although the sun was out, it was quite chilly so I thought this was perfect timing to break out my new cargo jacket from Nordstrom. I have been searching for the perfect cargo jacket for months and now I live in this one. It’s the perfect jacket for layering and light enough to take into the spring. Under, I wore my printed tank from the Closet and my favorite skinnies from Citizens of Humanity. The day called for a lot of walking so I kept my shoe choice comfy with my sneaker wedges from Chinese Laundry. These are the days that  I look forward to; my weekly trips to Santa Barbara get me through these stressful weeks.

Just a short post today!

Happy Monday and may this week go by fast!

Ways to Wear Wednesday: The Yellow Dress

Dress: Althea

I try to get the most out of my closet, especially for those special occasion pieces. So when it was time to get a dress for my stepbrother’s wedding I wanted to make sure that I picked something that was not only comfortable but something that I could and would wear again. I fell in love with this mustard Althea dress that I found at a boutique in Santa Barbara and it ended up being the perfect fit for the occasion. And you bet I wore it more than once.

Outfit #1: Wedding. I chose to keep my outfit understated and simply added a few golden accessories and my mustard colored Naughty Monkey wedges. One of the wedding colors happened to be mustard so the whole outfit worked out perfectly.

Outfit 2: Out for the Night. Adding a leather jacket and my studded belt from BCBGeneration transformed this dress into night. Mustard is usually seen as such a daytime color, but the leather accents definitely add a toughness to such a light dress. My lace up BCBGeneration wedges were the perfect finishing touch.

Outfit #3: Brunch. I believe that anything can be taken from season to season if you wear it right. I wore this dress on a breezy winter day in Santa Barbara by simply throwing on my heather grey sweater from BCBGeneration, thick socks and my favorite cognac pair of boots from Steve Madden.

Stay tuned for more.

Happy Belated Hearts Day! My Valentine’s Day consisted of getting my car done, running errands and then attending my night class…so much fun. So really I celebrated Valentine’s Day in Santa Barbara this past weekend with J. Heart shaped pizza, sparkling champagne, show reruns (with cocktails in between), the best brunch in Santa Barbara and a weekend full of relaxing was my Valentine’s Day and it was pretty perfect.

To show my Valentine’s spirit I had to break out my Marc by Marc Jacobs printed dress. Marc Jacobs is one of my all time favorite designers and I have quite the collection from clothing to accessories. I fell in love with the bright colors and poppy print. The best part? I scored this Marc dress on Gilt! And there’s definitely more than one way to wear it! I love it with a pair of black tights and a leather jacket. To make the colors pop even more I chose  my peachy Kate Spade patent Mary Janes. It was quite the festive outfit. Hope you all had a good Valentine’s Day!

Please excuse my absence once again. Last week I was so exhausted and started a night class that I couldn’t find the strength to even type a simple post. I feel extremely old and the worst part was that I was recovering from Superbowl weekend. Not only was it the Superbowl but my best friend’s birthday as well. It was a long weekend of celebrating to say the least.

Now my best friend, Jessica, is obsessed with Pinterest. (But who isn’t?) So we had to have a Pinterest party! We used Pinterest to inspire our menu and decor. (And I must say it was a success.) The menu consisted of bacon wrapped dates, caprese bites, deviled eggs (with a twist), pizza cupcakes and red velvet cupcakes. We also made amazing jello shot in orange slices, which was surprisingly easy! It’s amazing the things you learn from Pinterest!

Now for the outfit. I’m a huge fan of color blocking. The simplest of outfits can come to life with the right color combinations. I chose to pair my royal blue Sans Soucii button down with my turquoise Forever 21 skinnies. My color blocked wedges from Chinese Laundry complimented my outfit in every way. My color blocked outfit was perfect for a night of eating, drinking and celebrating Jessica. Kind of makes you want to go on Pinterest right now, doesn’t it?

New post tomorrow!

Just Add it to My Resume

If you were a previous reader from High4allheels on blogspot you have heard me say I wear many hats at Chinese Laundry. My official title? Marketing assistant. My duties include everything from managing all social media platforms for 2 of our brands (my main role) to assisting in the planning and execution of events and everything in between. My latest role? Shoe model.

Now I wear a size 7 and that is no sample shoe size. The thought of shoe modeling never crossed my mind but when I slipped my feet into a sample size 6, they magically fit. Are my feet shrinking?! So I was asked to be in our Spring/Summer 2013 photoshoot, mani and pedi included. Not only would I play model for the day but be assisting along the way. (Which included a Starbucks run)

The shoot took place at this gorgeous house tucked in Beverly Hills overlooking the city. Shoe photo shoots are a little different from the usual fashion shoot. Hair and makeup is not so much needed for a shoe shoot except for the legs. And only certain clothing is truly shown but we still had an amazing stylist on set. She pulled all the clothing from Urban Outfitters, Free People and H&M. I wanted every piece and it was nice to play dress up.

Now I am no model. Our photographer was very patient and directed me well. Not to mention it was one of those sunny Los Angeles days that happened to be in the 50’s! Pretending that it was a warm and sunny summer day in cut-off shorts and a silky romper was not working for me. But I definitely have some new shoe poses up my sleeve and a new understanding of what working models go through.

At the end of the day, I can add shoe model to my resume and I loved the experience. I have heard that shoe models make decent money. Career change? We shall see.

What to Wear Wednesday: Interview Edition

Blazer: Topshop

Pants: BCBGeneration

Cami: Nordstrom

Shoes: Forever 21

Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Rings: Custom, Forever 21

Choosing your interview outfit is no easy task. The second I schedule an interview I am thinking of outfit options. After all, first impressions are very important. I always find that picking an outfit for an interview in fashion is always the hardest. You have to find the perfect balance of trends, representing the brand and most importantly expressing yourself. (All without going over the top)

Fashion publicist Matthew Rant says it best: “You should definitely dress differently at a fashion interview than in the more corporate worlds of say finance or pharmaceuticals. However, presenting yourself as polished and professional is ALWAYS key. The team at Vogue is fashion-conscious, but they could just as easily walk into many different companies and look equally appropriate.”

My go-to interview outfit? Almost always involves harem pants. (Sick of hearing about them yet?) They are my “suit pant” and work well with my long legs. I can’t tell you how many interviews I have been to where girls are wearing mini skirts or what they think are pencil length skirts. If you have to hold your skirt to sit down in the interview chair or have to bend down awkwardly to pick something up, your skirt is too short. Please add some tights. (Fashion rant)

Back to the outfit. I am usually not one to wear the brand from head to toe but I definitely will always wear a piece from the brand I am pursuing. (Especially while interviewing for a sales role) This shows you know how to incorporate the pieces into your everyday wardrobe. I chose to stay away from the classic blazer and fell in love with this paisley printed blazer from Topshop that I found on sale at Nordstrom.

To make my printed blazer pop, I added my oxblood Forever 21 booties. Shoes are a very important part of the outfit. I always try to wear a bold color, fun print or any conversation starter. However, it is important to remember to not wear heels that are too tall or are not 100% comfortable. There’s nothing cute about a girl who can’t walk in her shoes. (Major fashion faux pas)

That being said, make sure that your outfit describes you. A job in the fashion industry requires passion, knowledge and creativity. This should reflect in your outfit.

Good Luck!

I apologize for the cobwebs. Work has overwhelmed my life and have left me rather exhausted. But I am back and somehow am going to find that balance that I so desperately need in my life. Back to the outfit.

Mixed. I love mixing my steals and deals with my more expensive items. I paired this black BCBGeneration bodysuit (a must for every closet) with these printed harem pants from Forever 21 that I bought for an amazing $9. I love a good pair of harem pants. Not only are they comfortable but can easily be dressed up with a silky tank and sky-high heels or dressed down with an oversized sweater and a pair of flats. I definitely recommend at least trying on a pair if you don’t already own one. I finished the look off with another steal. $9 oxblood booties from Forever 21. I swear if you’re patient and your luck is right, you can find deals like this too!

Just a quick post today! Stay tuned for more!

Friday Faves: Christmas Present Edition

Stay tuned for Fridays! I will share my 5 favorite things I am obsessing over the course of the week. This week I have to share my 5 favorite Christmas presents!

1. Hello Kitty: So I don’t think I have shared this yet but I am obsessed with everything involving Hello Kitty. I have since I was about 5 and my obsession has yet to wear off. My Christmas is not complete without something Hello Kitty. This year my best friend got me the softest Hello Kitty robe and matching slipper socks! My Dad also got me the cutest Hello Kitty Throw.

2. Fuck It ring: My Stepmom is the best shopper! I had put this up on my Pinterest board a while ago. Everytime I have searched for this ring it has been sold out. My amazing Stepmom had this ring custom made!

Image3. Neiman Marcus Collection: I made out this Christmas with the Neiman Marcus Collection! My best friend and her boyfriend bought me the Tory Burch lunchbox and thermos! I always bring my lunch to work so this worked out perfect! My brother also bought me the DVF jewelry box! Score

4. American Apparel Dog Sweatshirt: How cute is this?! My bf got this amazingly cute sweater for my puppy MJ.

5. New kitchen stuff: I have been in need of new kitchen equipment! So I was especially happy to open this new set of pots and pans from my Dad! I love the red theme! His girlfriend even got me matching towels and oven mitts!

I had a great Christmas! How was yours? What did you all get for Christmas?!

Is Christmas really next week?!

With the company holiday party under my belt and the Miss Universe events coming to a close I am beginning to feel like a free woman and I am now ready to fully embrace the holidays for the next week and get back on track! December has flown by so fast and I am still not ready for Christmas. For some reason I am struggling with my Christmas list this year and I know it’s not just because I am on a budget! Holiday shopping is tiring, especially when you have no clue what to get. Always have a game plan or some idea when venturing out into the holiday madness! I am usually much more organized.

I wore this simple outfit while out trying to accomplish some holiday shopping while out in Santa Barbara. I have been looking for the perfect button down with cut-outs for a while now but I tend to lean towards the more expensive ones. So needless to say I was thrilled when I found this striped one hanging on a rack in Buffalo Exchange. Score! I usually walk out of there empty handed! I wore my favorite pair of grey Sevens and finished the look with my Chinese Laundry bootie. The thick heel made these the ideal shopping shoes!

Just a short post today! I wish you all luck in your Holiday shopping and hope you are further than me! Check back later for a post on my experience as a foot model last Saturday!

Happy Hour with the 2012 Miss Universe Contestants & Zappos

ImageImageImageImageImageImageIt’s been one of those busy weeks and I am now trying to get back on schedule!

Last Friday I flew to Las Vegas to cover our Happy Hour party with the 2012 Miss Universe Contestants and Zappos employees. In case you didn’t know, Chinese Laundry is the official shoe sponsor for both the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. This year the Miss Universe pageant is in Las Vegas, so the girls are spending most of their December in Las Vegas. (Be sure to tune in to NBC 12/19 to see the Pageant) We try to get the pageant hype up by doing events and hosting parties with the girls. This year we hosted Happy Hour at the Zappos Headquarters with all their employees. Zappos is one of our key accounts, so we wanted to throw this event just for them!

I’ve always heard that Zappos is an amazing company to work for and that pretty much describes their offices as well. All their cubicles are fully decorated, they welcome their new employees with a personalized throne, they have a full coffee bar where you can get drinks all day long (for free!) and a full bistro where they provide fresh food from breakfast to dinner (also free!). And let me tell you they know how to party. Besides all the free perks, Zappos is also a very reputable company and continually growing, and are obviously known for their superb customer service.

All 94 Miss Universe 2012 contestants were broken into 3 rooms where we had karaoke and a dj, spin the wheel for prizes and a photobooth. Not to mention, we had 2 full bars!  My job? To capture the pictures, encourage the girls to get up and sing and to cover all the social media platforms. The event was a huge hit! By the end of the party the girls were dancing to “Gangham Style” with some of the Zappos employees. It definitely was apparent that both parties throughly enjoyed themselves.

So who’s going to take home the crown? It’s hard to say, but I am pulling for Miss Ecuador, Miss France, Miss Nicaragua or Miss Cayman Islands. I guess we will have to stay tuned and see!
